Candies Pit Bull Attack September 2000

Kimberly was walking the dog down the street on a September evening when a pit bull owned by a neighbor 3 doors down got loose and ran down the street and attacked our dog Candy. It was pretty gruesome, quite honestly I didn't think the dog would survive. Kim came and got me and said the dog was dead, as I walked down the street with her trying to consol her Joce was at the head of the street screaming for me to get down there. There was a whole crowd of people at the end of the street. As I got there I saw the the Pit Bull was still in the process of savagely attacking Candy. I grabbed some kids bike that was there and threw it on the Pit Bull, the Pit bull took off and circled around to attack again. I grabbed the bike and threw it on the dog again which finally chased it off for good. Candies neck was chewed up something terrible and bleeding like hell but she was still alive. We scooped her up and ran her to an animal hospital where she spent the night and had quite a bit of sewing up done to her. I was shocked that she was still alive, but thankful at the same time that the Pit Bull attacked the dog rather than Kimberly. Who knows, if the dog wasn't with her it might have been Kimberly! We brought her home the next day, she had tubes sticking out of her neck to allow blood to drain, it was a mess and took several weeks for the dog to heal. But the dogs fine now, total cost was $1600.00 which the owner paid. The Pit Bull was put to sleep by the owner after I told them I wanted the dog put down or I'd come down there and put a bullet in the dogs head myself ( I was a little emotional at the time).
